A day at Sentosa to destress

Have been juggling a lot recently, and I decided to take a day’s leave to destress. Also had a voucher I had to use up soon, so Sentosa it was. A weekday before the school holidays started sounded like the perfect time to avoid the crowds.

I reached early and took the Sentosa Express monorail from Vivocity into Sentosa. It usually costs $4 to get in, but this has been waived for the time being. Exit was free as usual too.

I alighted from the Sentosa Express Monorail at Beach Station, and took the 9am Sentosa Shuttle (looks like a tram) to Fort Siloso stop, which was a short walk away from the Coastal Trail, which I’ve been meaning to do for quite a while. I took a cropped shot of the letters above to remind me to go SLO(w).

Loved the coastal trail. Short but soothing.

Also managed to get a few framed shots of this architectural beauty.

So much beauty in a flower bud.

Thereafter I went to redeem my pass for a leisurely stroll through the SEA Aquarium. It was not without interruption, but the beauty of a solo trip is the chance to linger as long as I liked at each exhibit, and simply lose myself in the wonder of God’s creation, and make plenty of eye contact with each fish I fancied. I wonder if some of them felt they were bonding with me too.

There were so many fascinating creatures – how infinite and beyond comprehension is our God’s creativity. The colouring of the white fish above was so strange and random it looked like the artwork of a 5 year old.

Such gorgous colours and markings on the lobster’s shell and legs.

I lingered the longest at the sea jelly exhibits, allowing their hypnotic movements to lull me into a state of dreamy wonder.

The largest tank was just as awe-inspiring as always, and although the manta ray which enjoys somersaulting decided not to whilst I was there, it was still amazing to see these giants coursing through the deep waters. What a privilege to gaze upon this all without having to don a scuba-diving suit.

The corals (including some glow in the dark ones) and colourful fish were just a sight to behold.

At the exit, there was one last delightful surprise. These poisonous frogs were thumb-sized but so intricately coloured and marked! (My kids thought I touched them but I had merely put my thumb on the glass tank for scale.)

After spending three leisurely hours at the aquarium, I had lunch. Thankful to God that the weather held up, as it was forecast to rain that afternoon. Look at how beautiful the skies were instead!

So I decided to make use of the $3 offer for locals, and took the Sentosa Cable Car – Internal Line loop. It was certainly worth more than $3! The usual price is $15. Got there easily by taking the Sentosa Express monorail for one stop – from RWS station to Imbiah station.

It was surprisingly breezy at the high points and as we descended, even though the mid-day sun was shining brilliantly above. Glad I made the choice to try out this little journey over the tree-tops for a bird’s eye view around Sentosa.

Thereafter, I hopped off the little cabin at the Merlion Cable Car station, walked across to the Imbiah Sentosa Express station, and headed back to Vivocity.

It was good to be out in the sun, marvel at God’s sea creatures and soar in the sky. Thanks be to God, we cast our cares on Him!
