Sushi Go by Gameswright – fast-play game that’s easy to learn

Exams are over, and it’s time to RELAX and HAVE FUN!

We were introduced to this game recently, and the girls managed to learn it by themselves by watching an online demo video and reading the instruction booklet.

I like Sushi Go because it’s easy to learn and I can teach my friends to play it very quickly.

It is a very quick game that is handy to bring around, since it simply comprises a deck of cards.

I am constantly impressed at how game designers can put so much play into just a deck of cards. It certainly requires creativity and a good sense of what structure of gameplay makes for the most fun.

I love this game because:

  • there is an element of unpredictability to whether your opponents will choose to undermine your choices, or whether everyone will choose to ‘play nice’ and build up their own empires/points
  • as the hands of cards keep rotating, you have to decide fast on what cards to pick as part of your collection, and think a few steps ahead to see whether you might get a chance to accumulate other cards from this same hand when it lands with you next
  • The speed of the game trains quick thinking, which is good practice for my dwaddlers
  • the graphics are cute (very important factor influencing whether my family takes to this game – life is too short to look at ugly cards)

The girls like it so much that I see them playing it pretty often, and they even chose it as one of the games to bring along, to introduce to their friends from our church care group whilst the adults have bible study!

All in all, this game is simple enough for kids to pick up, and interesting enough for adults to want to keep playing!
