Soul Shift by Rachel Macy Stafford – uplifting and restorative!

“Soul Shift” by Rachel Macy Stafford is the most uplifting and restorative book I’ve read recently. And it’s being officially launched today! (28 March 2023, Eastern Standard Time)

I have been a stalwart RMS fan ever since her first book Hands Free Mama hit the shelves in 2015. Through the years as my children grew, her radically candid blog posts and emails periodically appeared like comforting missives in my inbox, sometimes full of heartache, but always deeply personal and uplifting.

I bought her books over the years and wrote reviews, here and here.

Through the pandemic years of 2020-2022, I listened to her soothing yet challenging Soul Shift podcast course. It grounded me, centered my mind on the things that mattered – my faith, my family, and encouraged me to reflect on the inner work needed to nourish my soul.

When I heard that her latest book “Soul Shift” was completed a few months ago, I made a pre-order to buy it, and was privileged to be invited to be part of her book launch team. Read the special advance softcopy of book availed to the launch team and loved it! Here are some snippets:

As our most authentic selves, we are most available to love and to be loved.”

“By telling the truth, one person, one difficult moment at a time, maybe I could finally dispel the belief that I must hide parts of myself in order to be loved and could, instead, start living in alignment with my true values, interests, and strengths.

Soul Shift, R. M. Stafford

Rachel Macy Stafford speaks out so well against pretence, against the need to put ourselves forward as someone we are not. I found the chapter on authenticity the most helpful, and the phrase “meeting in the light of realness” is one that I will carry with me for a long time.

“Soul Shift” is a book of beautiful stories mapping out “the weary human’s guide to getting unstuck and reclaiming your path to joy”. Many of these stories are familiar, because Rachel has so generously shared these snippets of her life with her community of readers over the years.

Every time I read her beautiful, healing words, I feel a deep resonance in my soul. With aching vulnerability, Rachel puts out her hand, one weary human to another, offering hope, compassion and generosity of spirit. She is no stranger to pain and difficult moments in life’s journey, and knows keenly what challenges mental and physical health can present. Yet in all our struggles, we can reclaim deep joy.

After following Rachel’s writings for so many years, I am so glad that in this book she openly writes about her going to church, and how she pours out her soul in prayer. It has become almost unacceptable to mention Christian practices these days, and I appreciate her living out this authenticity, whilst always being respectful and inclusive. Wrote down quotes from Soul Shift in my journal, to remind myself and my loved ones of these important soul-nourishing truths.

This book would certainly make a wonderful gift to all weary and parched souls out there.
