Depressed Dave – honest insight into depression

Depressed Dave provides such an honest insight into the medical condition of depression.

I read about Kean Loong’s story in Bruised Reeds 2 and found his name familiar. Did some searches and realised that we had quite a number of mutual friends as we went to the same school.

Soon I also found out that he had published a comic on depression, and decided to lend some support by purchasing it from the Graceworks website.

This was such an eye-opening graphic novel, comprising topical sections of comic strips on the various aspects of depression. It gave me a true window into how strugglers feel and the best advice on what not to say if we are not in exactly the same shoes. Even those struggling with depression have different symptoms and experiences, and should not impose their views and what worked for them on others.

Depression is real. Depression is not easily shrugged off. Christians can and do get depressed. As our friends work through their journey through the valley of despair, may we always be understanding and support them in any way we can. This book taught me that most times, being silent and just listening is much better than anything else.
