My reflection yesterday reminded me on this sight that stopped me in my tracks for a long while.

I glimpsed it first as I was walking home from the MRT (Singapore’s metro system the Mass Rapid Transit). It was this long vibrant arc that swept across the evening sky that took my breath away.

I stopped and started taking photos of it. Some pedestrians saw it too. I wanted to point at it to every child! For which child would not be fascinated by these colours brushed across the vast light blue canvas?

Most rainbows are usually faint and fleeting. Some linger for perhaps 10 minutes, then slowly fade, paler and paler, blending into the day until you can hardly glimpse the pastel washes.

This one was strong – a gleaming bow with vivid bands of Red! Orange! Yellow! Green! Blue! Indigo!

I walked on, but when I caught sight of it again as I rounded a bend, I couldn’t help but just stop, feet firmly rooted to the ground. I just stood there and basked in the sight. Just gawked and said a prayer of thanks at this beautiful arc of God’s promise never to destroy the earth again with floodwaters.

I stood and wondered how long the colours would stay, suspended and plastered across the canopy, the ceiling of the chapel that is planet earth.

They persisted and I persisted. When I had finally had my fill of bathing in its glow, I took a final picture of it and walked home, heart full to the brim with the assurance of God’s certain grace and promise of eternal hope.

What a wonder to be gifted with this enduring rainbow. What a gift to be alive. What a life He has given us to testify to His redeeming love.

Hallelujah, Amen.
