Finally!! A cool bistro in my neck of the woods!
Every time I see a nice café on IG or in some article, it is almost always Too Far Away. So when my friend Pancake Princess posted about this place, my ears pricked up. It’s in the neighbourhood I grew up in!
It was real busy the weekend night we visited (the sizeable al fresco area was also mostly full), but service was still friendly and prompt. They were also very accommodating when we asked if we could change our order. Plus, no service charge nor GST for now! (What a rarity, these days.)
What got us totally sold was the great food at fantastic prices. The fish and chips with a layer of herbs was our family’s favourite, and the chicken chop with mango and pineapple chunks came in a close second. They offer a good range of pasta and other dishes too, with almost all the mains going at below $10 each!
For dessert, their signature molten lava chocolate cake with gelato was simply awesome. The chocolate that oozed out was of the finest quality, and the cake was soft and had just the right amount of bounce to it. The kids couldn’t get enough of it!
It was most thoughtful of them to include a nook with a kitchen play set for kids. Very clever to locate it under a flight of stairs. The ‘attic eaves’ effect is exactly what I loved as a child. It is tiny but the kids present that evening got along well enough to play nicely together.
I think this fun space was the main reason why B plaintively asked, ‘Can we come tomorrow?’ Urm, sorry love, next week maybe?
|You know it’s good when the kids love it (one obviously oreoccupied with getting her share of the molten lava cake) too!|
K was also very pleased with the place and did not hesitate to give an emphatic thumbs-up when I asked her whether she was having a good time!
You know they like to say at weddings, ‘happy wife, happy life’? For us at dinner outings it’s always, ‘happy kids, happy parents’. (Okay, so I couldn’t make it rhyme, bah.) We’ll be back real soon!
