Step by step through Advent

Inspired by friends (here, here, here and here), I decided to try making my own advent calendar for the girls to tread slowly, purposefully and meaningfully towards Christmas Day.
I thought of little 2 inch ‘cards’ that I could seal shut with some glue tape. After all, I had so many Christmas themed papers from years past (plus the ones I bought this year for card making) and this would be perfect for using up those tiny spare leftover bits.

What I really dug was the fact that these pretty patterned paper were double sided, with matching prints on the other side. Whilst this meant that it was hard for my specially opaque white pen ink to show up on some pieces, it thrilled me still cos there were so many eye-candy colours!

I made mine on a 12×12 sheet of recycled paper, which turns out to be a great portable size, since we’ll be staying at different locations in December.

I did underestimate the time I’d take to adapt and write out all the verses and activities from the links my friends shared (50 sides to fill!) but did feel pleased when it was done.
So we’re in time for the girls to be one step closer to a Christmas surrounded by the verses and activities that matter (BB share a gift purchases and deliveries appear in all the advent calendars I referenced, yay!).
I also came up with praying for children in the Philippines (where we’ve sent gifts) and Malaysia (when we visit) so hopefully they develop a keen heart for others this season.
Have a blessed Advent season, one and all.

    1. Hi Carol! The activities are actually listed in their links in the first sentence of this post. 🙂 I used some of those, and came up with others like practicising for choir item, praying for children around the world. celebrating christmas in sunday school… 🙂

  1. Really pretty! You’ve just got a good eye for matching things that I wish I had! Our advent is simple this year — just lots around the sharing of the Christmas story. Only started this morn but it’s full steam ahead!
