An evening of warm mulled wine, turkey and ham, as well as Christmas carols playing throughout the night – what better way to feel all Christmassy as we enter into the season of Advent?
ParkRoyal on Kitchener is a stone’s throw away from Farrer Park MRT station. Our family was invited to witness their lobby light up, and experience their new festive menu for Christmas 2017.
Here’s the general manager, showing us their Christmas tree made of upcycled mineral water bottles. After a dramatic lights out, the Christmas tree came aglow! The kids were quite fascinated by this and considered it one of their highlights of the evening.
Thereafter, their staff led us in a jolly round of carols (including one of my favourites – Hark the Herald Angels Sing). It was lovely how everything was like a family celebration since Santa, the Santarinas and the guitarist all seemed to be hotel staff instead of hired professionals.
The best part of all this upcycled decor, is that the sizeable budget that goes to expensive Christmas decorations every year, will be channeled to Arc Children’s Centre this year, to bring cheer to children who are ill.
It’s wonderful that all the decor in the hotel lobby was designed and mostly made by staff, with recycled materials that they had collected over months. What a meaningful gesture. All hotels should do this!
Soon after, it was dinner time!
I thought this was the most festively adorned turkey I had ever seen. Taking this photo and seeing the warm hues in which it basked in reminded me of Christmas log fires! What a spectacular bird!
It was interestingly seasoned with tandoori too (and thus known as the “Tandoori-style Roast Turkey”), and very yummy! I enjoyed the tender dark meat from the turkey’s leg.
There was also a delicious leg of ham (“Bone-in Gammon Ham”), that the Chef expertly carved.
Served by the Chef with greens, mushrooms, pine nuts and sauce, the juicy soft ham was my favourite dish of the night.
ParkRoyal on Kitchener also has a new chef from Malacca, so we were treated to some really awesome Babi Ponteh and Laksa.
The dessert corner was lovely too, with a variety of beautifully decorated cakes and tarts.
We were really spoiled by the lavish generosity of our hosts – service was prompt and attentive, and the quality of food was excellent – true hallmarks of hospitality professionals.
Our family had a wonderful evening, as you can see from the grins above.
If you are wondering where to have that family dinner, or annual Christmas gathering with old friends, definitely consider ParkRoyal on Kitchener – the hotel with lots of heart!
Here are the prices – I think it’s really value for money, especially the Festive Buffet Lunch that is only $40++ for adults! Plus you can get 15% off if you have the credit cards listed below, and an extra 5% off if you book and prepay before 15 December. What a great deal!
Their log cakes are really delicious too. This one below is the 1kg “Traditional Chocolate Hazelnut Torte Log Cake ($60)”. Slices of soft velvety chocolate cake with little chocolate balls within the cream adding a surprise crunch! We and the kids loved it.
So if you are looking for a log cake with extra finesse to bring to a Christmas party, this one from ParkRoyal certainly fits the bill.
Note: Thanks ParkRoyal for the media invite!
