Legoland Hotel and Water Park 2016

LEGOLAND HOTEL

Enter Legoland Hotel and you enter the land of LEGO. From the impressive lobby with the brick castle and pirate ship, reminiscent of the Kingdom and Pirate themes in the hotel, to the child-sized minifig sculptures that adorn each lift lobby, the hotel is really every LEGO fan’s dream come true.

When the girls arrived, like every other child, they immediately ran to the piles of LEGO in the ‘castle moat’ and started building.

Although I’ve seen this minifig wall before, it still never ceases to fascinate me. The 12,528 minifigs (behind the reception) bear testament to the fundamental beauty of LEGO – it is so simple, yet almost infinitely variable. A minifig only has four tiny components (hair/headpiece, face, body, legs), but look at the possibilities!

Here are six things we love at the LEGOLAND Hotel:

  1. Snazzy lifts. The completely wall-papered lifts were such fun, especially those with disco lights and music! We realised that the lights and music weren’t working for a few of the lifts, but the kids certainly started grooving when they entered one with the full works.

2. Wonderfully decorated themed rooms. We were thrilled with our allocation of a Kingdom-themed room on the 7th floor, and we had a nice view of one of the turrets. Look at the LEGO flowers! Familiar to me since childhood.

The room was fantastic, and we loved everything! From the gorgeous wallpaper (featuring funny little scenes of unlucky knights, and a very cool Merlin), to the bunk bed (K immediately claimed the top bunk), lush decor of the main bedroom and the themed toiletries (including body lotion!).

3. Separate kids and adult room sections. Both the kids and adults loved this! Within just one hotel room, we could have our own ‘space’ (plus two TVs!). This is particularly useful for those with younger kids who need to nap, whilst the other kids can continue creating a ruckus in the other alcove.

4. Surprise gifts in a treasure chest. The girls soon got hard at work in deciphering the clue sheet to unlock the treasure chest placed in every room. It wasn’t as straightforward as we thought (especially the part where the hint says ‘enter the numbers in the direction of the lever’), but we finally got it! And unlocked cool treasures of two minifigs and a LEGO Friends ruler (with cute stickers).

5. Tons of activities. There are so many activities for kids just within the hotel, so the play doesn’t end even after the theme park closes at 7pm. There was ‘live’ bedtime story reading at 8:45pm, movie screenings, various activities at the lobby throughout the day, Kinect-style games near the Brick Restaurant, and larger foam LEGO there for the littler ones to play with too.

6. Fascinating LEGO sculptures everywhere. Our stay came with breakfast at the Bricks Family Restaurant, which serves a variety of Asian and Western food. We especially enjoyed admiring the numerous LEGO sculptures around the restaurant, including some that moved!

Although the hotel was so much fun, we simply had to head out once the parks opened.  : )

LEGOLAND WATERPARK

Hotel guests and Annual Pass holders get to enter the Theme Park and Water Park at 930am, half an hour before it opens to the general public at 10am. So at 930am, we were in!

B enjoys the very mild slides at the “Duplo Splash Safari” zoo-themed shallow pool, as well as cruising down the “Build-A-Raft River”, so much so that she went for two rounds!

imageK had a fun time in her favourite LEGO Wave Pool, and said the best part of her day there was going on the slides at the Joker Soaker. There’s a long Red slide, a dark and winding Blue slide, and a speedy Yellow slide – loads of fun. Here’s the crash of water from the tipping of the 300 gallon bucket, whooosh!!

Although the park is compact, there are so many slides! The straight and fast Big Splash type Slide Racers, the Red Rush where a large raft sweeps down a huge flat pipe.  The Tidal Tube was the most exhilarating for me (very dark and twisty with sudden drops), followed by Splash-n-Swirl (where my float refused to be flushed down the sink drain for a bit – adds to the drama heh), and the Twin Chasers (junior slides for those who only reach 102cm in height).  The red-and-yellow Brick Blaster looked like lots of fun, but requires carrying a huge green raft up for at least 3 people to ride, so we gave it a miss.

Build a Boat

This was a new activity that has been added since the last time we visited. LEGO boat hulls are provided, with a few stations around where kids can decorate and build up their very own boat to race! It’s a little like the Build & Test station at Imagination Land in the Theme Park, but this time kids race their creations in a fast flowing river!

imageThe girls had fun figuring out what designs make a boat faster, slower, more prone to capsize, or break apart.

We left in time to get showers in the comfort of our hotel room, just before check-out time. We came back to Singapore tanned one shade darker, but with our hearts many shades lighter! It’s always meaningful to spend time together as a family, and what more at such a fun resort, where we adults enjoy the theme as much as the kids. : )
