So Mother’s Day is coming up, and what does my eldest child have to say to me?

Six and a half year old K actually loves writing notes to her papa and mama. So more often than not, when we arrive home from work, there is a little mystery envelope with letters and/or little drawings inside for us.

Here are pix of some of them.

So delightful right?

I too, try to sneak in little notes (written on pretty post-its) onto her lunchbox as a surprise sometimes (too often and it gets taken for granted? Lousy excuse, I know) but I admit that she writes to us far more often than I write to her.

Anyway, when I heard of this blog train I thought it would be fun to join, firstly to make sure that I did get a Mother’s Day card, and secondly, I thought it’d be so cool to hear what she has to say to me (four year old B can’t quite write yet, so we’ll force her to she’ll get to do it next time). I gave her access to my scrap supplies (hand-me-downs from her loving aunt – thank you!), and here’s the result – Ta-dah!

I was surprised again when she came back from school one day with this!

Apparently the Dads’ parent support group had ‘set up shop’ in school, including manning a craft table with free supplies for the kids to pen notes to their mothers!  What a wonderful initiative on so many levels. K said during recess, she sat there with a few other classmates, stuck the paper and ice-cream stick together, and wrote me this note.

Here’s a little note back to my dear girl:

Dear K,

Thank you so much too, for being my daughter, and that you and B are training me to be a better parent, even as we draw strength and grace from God’s unending supply. Take your time to grow, but always remember who you are as a child of God.

Love, Mummy
