Citiblocs – the one with the hot colours

So you know we have a set of Citiblocs, and looking back, I realised we’ve had it for more than a year, and how the girls have grown since…

Recently, MyFirstGames gave us a set of 100 “hot colour” blocs to review. And they were an immediate hit with the girls! First, they started hoarding the colours they liked, then they had fun building little structures with certain colour themes…

I had to give it a go myself, so K and I built this wonderful house – with me directing, and her helping to pick the colours, as well as place the pieces. It was fun be able to have cool coloured windows!

Would you like to live in my house with six windows?

At this age, kids can be hard to please. Sometimes, they come to me, saying that they are bored, soooooo bored. I say, “How about colouring?”, “Noooo… so boring!” “How about reading?” “Noooooo, I don’t feel like reading now….” -_-

So it’s very gratifying, as a mum, when I say “How about Citiblocs?” and have them respond, “Yaay!! Citiblocs!” and potter over to grab the boxes.

K’s great at making her own little creations, but B finds the most delight in making them ALL CRASH DOWN, even if it isn’t her sculpture. o.O So, we spend quite a lot of time trying to guard our works-in-progress. Once when B was napping, K said “Why don’t we play with Citiblocs now, so B can’t destroy it?”. Bingo, my child, bingo.

Some days, we still manage to make something with B around, with the right combination of stern warnings to her, and co-opting her into fetching pieces of certain colours. It was thus that our Great Round Spider was created.

How’s that for a radio-active neon spider? *Scream*

I was pretty proud of spidey

But my kids? “Can we now? Can we now?” The loudest cheers were reserved for the moment they trampled on it all, and reduced my beautiful big arachnid into a pile of rubble.

And they all fall down

Oh well. As they say, children need to be given free rein, to have unstructured play, and this is as unstructured as it gets, I’d say!

Loving our citiblocs and hoping to scale new heights (har har har) in our future creations.

    1. Thanks Ai! Must confess, these creations are not my originals! Pictured on the Citiblocs pamphlet, hee hee.

  1. hahahaha loved this post! 🙂 We have a house rule, that one can only knock down their own structure, or if they have the permission of the builder of the structure to knock it down. If they do so without permission, they get a smack on their hand. Be sure to state these ground rules before playing, and constantly remind them during play – and you should be fine =) There will be some hand-smacking in the beginning, but after awhile, they get it, and stop wrecking structures without permission.
