A slice of Melbourne on Goodman Road

Met up with old friends of some ten years and more. We were celebrating a friend’s new appointment but one of our party decided that a treat here would not be commensurate to his new package. Haha.

I had wondered which restaurant would have the luxury of being situated on sprawling grounds. These days, even at Dempsey, the eateries are packed close to one another, sardine-like.
Turns out that Cafe Melba is one of two restaurants at the Goodman Arts Centre, where we saw dancers practicing in a studio with open doors all around.
We settled in, had to carry a baby chair to our table (no one seemed to be acting on our repeated requests), but were thereafte promptly provided with children’s cutlery and two different large activity sheets with a sweet set of colour pencils in a little wooden box.
Good variety of activities that would keep the little ones occupied for at least 15 mins.

Not happy for long in her high chair. Much preferred the outdoors.

The standard breakfast. Like a big English one.
A four-storey deck of pancakes. Unfortunately, it looked much better than it tasted.
Chomping down all the fatty bacon bits. Little luxuries that the young can afford.
This was a very fast slide!
With lots of artwork on the other side.
Totally enjoying the bouncy castle. Think she must have spent an hour bouncing. Many different kids came and went and she ‘played’ with them or came to tell us which big sis was being mean to her little sis… Interesting. Glad she could hold her own, even with the boys!
Baby B chickened out when she realised how unstable the castle was. The gravel strip became her playground and she would sneak back quickly after we pulled her out of the sun each time. She was totally content to transport fistfuls of gravel from here to there. And there to here. Over and over again.
Must grab gravel.
Our little party enjoyed catching up, and whilst the food was a little pricey, guess rent doesn’t come cheap these days, plus the location and atmosphere were pretty unique.
The staff were really sweet to k&b too. When it looked like the skies would open, they deflated the castle. Seeing how crestfallen the kids looked, a staff actually carried B to stomp down the castle! For a good 5-10 mins! Think B enjoyed that.
And K asked midway if she could come here again! Haha, maybe if there a special occasion in future!

    1. actually there are many spaces in Singapore that look quite “wild”. We even have a mangrove swamp. 🙂

  1. I love all that space! I should drag D down to check it out. But when he hears Geylang, he loses interest. Zzzz.
