(Chip off) My old blocks

The other day, my dad brought over yet another toy for the girls. But this time, it was something that had me going “Aww!”, cos they were my old wooden blocks!

Like many other parents today, I have a strong affinity towards wooden toys and a bias against garish plastic ones.  Somehow, the former hearkens back to a simpler time, when homework hardly ate into play time, and Singapore was much less crowded.

Watching my girl (chip off the old block herself) play with my old blocks, my heart is awash with sentimentality and nostalgia.

It was also fun to see how something so basic can be transformed gleefully into “food” to be cooked in pots and pans, served up to all present, after “orders” are very seriously taken, sometimes even scribbled down illegibly in a little notepad.

Wonder if this set will make it to my parents’ “great grandchildren”!  Guess I shall have to be their curator, if that is to happen.  : )

Coming up:  The next post will be on the girls’ Papa’s old Matchbox toys (not the cars but some really cute Made in Singapore and Made in England plastic ones circa 1970s!).
